As the Men’s Alberta Club Season is winding down we have moved our Wednesday training session to Thursdays. Going forward for the remainder of the season we will be Training at 6pm on Monday and Thursday each week.
See below for an Update on the Alumni Game from the weekend, written by Alumni Rep and Stag of ’71 – Dean Kittleson.
What a great day for rugby, weather was perfect, Dinos had 30 plus players out and the Stags had close to 20 players as well. As usual we started with some touch rugby and the Stags took early control with a quick try while the Dinos were still running some pre-game drills, we take advantage whenever we can!! The touch portion lasted about 15 minutes with all players taking part and ended with 2 tries each. We then proceeded to the contact game where we were to play three 20 minute periods of tackle rugby with uncontested scrums…..another advantage!! The Stags really took control and put in 8 tries to 2 for the Dinos. There was lots of ball movement and strong running on both sides but the Stags seemed to have a bit more finish than the Dinos. John Pearce, a Stag from the 70s, was the ref and like most alumni games close calls went in favour of the Stags, need I say, another advantage. This year though with the Stags building up the scoreline, John started calling the game more closely and it made the 3rd period a little more interesting. All in all a very good day with a decent crowd on the sidelines, including some Stags from the 60s!!!!
